TWO METHODS OF ENLIGHTENMENT
Some spiritual schools of thought teach us that if we are to find inner peace we must spend more time just observing our thoughts, actions and deeds completely without judgment, playing the part of audience to a movie called life, free to be moved as we will while watching and/or participating at one’s discretion, even taking the director’s chair when necessity demands it. As sound a perspective as any I ever heard.
Another equally valid perspective tells us that we must starve our dark side into submission, essentially refusing to feed our demons until their willful desire to dominate us finally dies, leaving them no choice but to serve the Divine Soul. The method or technique by which this is accomplished can be summarized as simply not paying attention to the Ego’s mania. Remain Neutral no matter what it throws at you.
If this becomes a habit, then the Divine Soul has a chance to retrieve the knowledge of its Divine Origin, and can never again be lost, because in fact it never really was gone. The Soul then becomes the commander, leading to peace, supporting your efforts at offering help to your fellows, and protecting you from harm. This can all be done by adopting the role of Observer in one’s life. If one refuses to give any attention/energy to the dumb things coming from the Ego, then those dumb things cannot manifest in one’s life, due to a lack of nourishment from the person in the form of the thoughts, emotions and actions related to any of the Ego’s dumb ideas coming from without.
Have NO judgments, NO reactions to what the Ego would have you believe is real ‘out there’, and they won’t come true. Instead, one should quietly listen to the ideas coming from Divinity within us. Then life itself will be transformed.
Two perspectives, two techniques, but the same peaceful enlightening result.
