There are direct analogies between the certain practices in the world of brewing and some new models for male-female relationships.
Among the world of brewers (be it beer or wine brewing), it is known that it is impossible to even create such wonderful liquids without the process of Fermentation. Described in brief, Fermentation occurs when any sweet liquid is exposed to yeast cells, causing the process of fermentation to begin in which the yeast cells go about transforming the sweet mash into alcoholic beer or wine.
Scientists would tell you that fermentation is just a chemical reaction—nothing more. But alchemists would say that the yeast transforms the sweet mash, raising its inherent vibrations until it cannot be transformed anymore, achieving the highest manifestation of its divine qualities—a fermented, aged, slightly alcoholic liquid, bringing joy and a reduction of suffering to those who drink it.
From another perspective it can be stated that sweet liquids ‘attract’ the attention of yeast cells, which ‘infect’ the sweet liquid, and thereby change it into something more refined, more divine, a fermented beverage that brings joy to those fortunate enough to consume it.
In the world of human sexual interactions, it can likewise be stated that attractive women or “sweet women” attract the attention of men, who (ideally) act like yeast cells, transforming the women into something more refined, more divine, bringing joy not only to the man but to the whole world, for the woman is symbolic of the earth itself.
Conversely, it can see how a woman is attracted to a man who is a mover and shaker, a man who can change things around himself, change his world at will, for this means that he can certainly transform the woman if she is willing to be changed by him.
If a woman binds herself romantically with an unenlightened man, meaning one who is incapable of changing things around himself, then he is also incapable of transforming the woman, and thus the relationship will turn sour since the woman is essentially left on her own, as though she were still unattached to any man, becoming an untransformed dead spinster.
Analogously, in the world of brewing it is known that when a sweet liquid is unable to find a yeast cell to begin transforming itself, the mash will succumb to the effects of opportunistic bacteria and soon turn sour, becoming distasteful and unhealthy, totally unattractive to anything, except maybe flies and scavengers, which only makes sense, since being untransformed, death is the end result.
With brewing, once the sweet mash is transformed into something of higher vibration, i.e., an aged alcoholic beverage, then that is the end. The yeast cells slowly die and decompose within their own waste (alcohol), are filtered out by the brewer (in some cases), and the clean liquid is bottled. Unless the brewer adds more sugar to the liquid, then nothing more can be done with the beverage, other than aging it and/or drinking it, for this is now its purpose in life—to be enjoyed. The joyful, natural process of fermentation, the joyful work of the helpful yeast cells is over…unless they are physically transferred by the brewer to yet another sweet mash. Then the whole fermentation process is repeated, creating more alchemically transformed and joy-bringing alcoholic drinks out of ordinary sweet mash. But the work with the original mash is over.
There is something profound to be learned here. A sweet mash does not have the power to physically reproduce more of itself in order to continue the alchemical process of fermentation.
However, this is not the case with a woman in a relationship. And thereby is the secret of why a woman who is in a transformative relationship with a man can remain attractive to him (like sugar to the yeast). Being that she is one with Nature, which itself is ever-changing, she also is prone to changing herself every day. Such a ‘reversion’ back to a state of ever-new sweetness is the reason she needs more alchemical transformation from her enlightened man in the form of Love. And such is the reason why the man will once again perform the transformative, joy-bringing, alchemical dance that is called Love.
Imagine a large fermentation vessel that is constantly being replenished, always offering more joyous and purposeful work for the yeast, begging to be transformed again, to be raised again. The process continues, the joyous work goes on. The end result may be ever-changing, with different brewing recipes producing various flavors to be enjoyed, but the alchemical process of fermentation process itself remains the same.
Casting our eyes in another direction, we find proof that human beings are multiple-monogamous at heart. All we need do is once again make comparisons to the art and science of brewing.
By their very nature, brewer’s yeast strains are naturally able to ferment many different blends of sweet mash (for beer) or sweet juice (for wine)—they are not restricted to just one type of sweet liquid. Brewers are free to combine what they will for fermentation by any various numbers of yeast strains. Further, when a great yeast strain is bred, discovered or otherwise produced (and no doubt discovered through a series of countless fun taste-testing sessions) it is not restricted to just one type of sweet liquid. Rather it is subjected to experimentation with different brews. And truthfully, it is a matter of taste that determines what yeast works best with what brew (all yeast produce their own unique flavor) . And tastes differ among people as widely as their personalities dictate. It is my opinion that only in hell would someone restrict one yeast strain to just one brew. It is only natural to share a yeast strain with other brews to produce exciting new tasty brews.
Likewise, I think it is hell for human beings to restrict our love to just one person. It seems just as natural to deeply love more than one person simultaneously as it is natural to enjoy more than one favorite food, or comedian, or musical group. I feel it is only natural to share your love with others as freely as you will. Ideal women are like different styles of pre-fermented beverages. Any unfermented beverage (read—woman) who would not voluntarily share its yeast strain (read—her man) with other unfermented beverages (read—other potential female lovers) is truly the most restricted, unhappy and selfish kind of…‘beverage’.
Since when does a fully fermented beverage have the right to restrict numbers of unfermented beverages from the same yeast strain that made it so happy and fulfilled? If other unfermented beverages desire that particular yeast strain, and the yeast is able to ferment it, then nothing should keep them apart from following their free will to naturally be together and produce more joy-bringing alcohol. For the fermented to restrict the unfermented from also being fulfilled is to deny them their equal rights, and would only result in the unfermented becoming eventually unfulfilled, sour, and useless—a death sentence. Restricting love results in death. And consciously restricting others from sharing in the love you have found only creates hell.
There is no reason that a man (an enlightened man to be precise) should be forced or otherwise compelled by any outside source to remain romantically linked to just one woman his whole life. However, if he truly wants to stick to one woman as his freewill choice, that is his absolute right to do so. But if any man feels otherwise, feels that he is meant to be with more than one, then he is free accept the romantic overtures of any women he deems suitable. Every man is free to live the life he desires, to direct any aspect of his life in his own way, so why not romantically?
Flowers do not have the right to restrict the movements of pollen flying through the air which will crossbreed with other flowers. And neither do the flowers have the right to restrict the movements of cross pollination as directed by the chance landing of honey bees. Bees go where they will, irrespective of what any flower thinks or feels about it.
“Love divided is love multiplied.”—from Stranger in a Strange Land, by Robert A. Heinlein.
Women do not have the right to restrict the love interests of other women who show a legitimate spiritual interest in her man. A true woman of Love will not try to restrict her man’s love, but is secure in the fact that he loves her, and knows that his love and his light shines freely outward like the Sun, freely interacting with any who would receive his light. So if a second woman wishes to partake of the same joy as the first, she only need express her interest clearly to the man. Love will take care of the rest.
Such is what happens in our solar system constantly. The Sun in the sky shines its light freely on ALL of the plants that need its light to survive and be fruitful and fulfilled of purpose (dare I say the plants are happy?). Also the Sun shines out to all the planets without restriction so that they also might also receive and be happy. Do you think it is any coincidence that the word ‘planet’ and ‘plant’ are etymologically related? The life that is generated on the surface of the earth in the form of plants is mirrored in the life of the planets in the solar system. No one has the right to block out the light and love of the Sun from anyone else. No one has the right to restrict what is freely given.
So what happens after a fermentation is finished? The brew ages. It can become a bit more complex and refined (assuming there were some complex flavors in the brew in the first place). But otherwise the fermentation is complete. The yeast is essentially dead within the complete beer or wine. It is of no more great use to the brew. It dies off, falls to the bottom of the container and decomposes. It only makes sense that for any valuable yeast to continue to be productive, it not only should be shared with many different potential beverages, it must be shared as such. Only in such sharing can the yeast bring maximum joy to the world with the fermentation of so many beverages.
Can you imagine the darkness that would pervade our world if Christ of Buddha had their hands tied by one selfish student who wouldn’t allow their master to share his teachings with anyone else? How horrible! Spiritual Teachers never allow such nonsense to occur. They teach anyone who is genuine of intent and directly asks the teacher for instruction. The opinions of other selfish students matter about as much as a mosquito does to a whale.
And so it should be with human relationships. This kind of sharing can only bring about happiness and joy, as well as strengthening the entire race as a whole, as new genetic strengths can replace long dead genetic weaknesses in future generations over ages of time. It seems that Nature is constantly trying to do this, all the while we stupid selfish humans are trying to find ways to restrict ourselves from freely and naturally interacting with each other, and on more than just sexual levels, but on emotional and mental levels too—any level really.
As long as we try to believe and behave as separate beings, the unhappier we will be. In sharing ourselves, we slowly realize that we are One and thereby become One, by perfect communication, perfect interaction, and perfect intimate contact on every level of being.
